Care

Light: Provide bright indirect light. Gentle morning or filtered sun can be beneficial, but avoid prolonged harsh afternoon sun that may scorch the foliage.

Water: Water thoroughly when the upper portion of the potting mix begins to dry. Avoid keeping the roots continuously saturated, but do not leave the plant completely dry for extended periods.

Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is beneficial. Hoya calycina originates from wet tropical habitats, although established plants can adapt to normal indoor conditions.

Soil: Use a chunky, airy, well-draining Hoya or epiphytic mix that provides both moisture retention and good airflow around the roots.

Temperature: Keep warm and protect from cold drafts and frost.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly during active growth with a balanced fertilizer according to label directions.

Growth & Habit

Hoya calycina is naturally a climbing species. ‘Stargazer’ develops long vines that can be trained onto a trellis or allowed to trail from its hanging basket. Young plants may establish somewhat slowly before producing stronger vine growth as they mature.

The cultivar is especially known for its large, fuzzy foliage and flowers. Mature plants can produce clusters of white flowers with red to pink centers, and the flowers are reported to have a strong, pleasant fragrance.

Pet Safety

Pet safety has not been confirmed specifically for Hoya calycina.
