Description

Hoya curtisii is a miniature trailing Hoya known for its tiny olive-green leaves patterned with irregular silver-gray markings. Its thin stems spread and root readily at the nodes, eventually creating a dense mat of foliage that can cascade from a hanging basket. Under very bright light, the foliage can develop dark red to maroon tones. Mature plants may also produce clusters of small, fragrant, star-shaped flowers.

Quick Facts

  • Botanical Name: Hoya curtisii
  • Common Name: Tiny Leaf Porcelain Flower Hoya
  • Pot Size: 5-inch hanging basket
  • Growth Habit: Creeping, climbing, and trailing
  • Light: Bright indirect light
  • Water: Moderate; allow the upper portion of the mix to begin drying between waterings
  • Care Level: Easy
  • Pet Safety: This plant has not been tested for pet safety.

Care

Light: Provide bright indirect light for compact growth and strong foliage coloration. Gentle filtered or morning sun can be beneficial, but prolonged harsh direct sun can scorch the small leaves. Partial shade is appropriate outdoors. N.C. Extension Gardener Toolbox

Water: Water thoroughly once the upper portion of the potting mix begins to dry, then allow excess water to drain. Hoya curtisii is sensitive to prolonged waterlogging, but avoid leaving the root system completely dry for extended periods.

Humidity: Moderate humidity is beneficial. Around 50–60% humidity is a good target, although established plants can adapt to typical indoor conditions.

Soil: Use an airy, well-draining potting mix with good organic content and plenty of root aeration. A mix containing quality potting media, perlite, and bark works well.

Temperature: Hoya curtisii grows well around 60–80°F. Protect it from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly with a balanced houseplant fertilizer during active growth. Reduce feeding when growth slows.

Growth & Habit

Hoya curtisii is a slow-growing miniature Hoya with thin stems that creep, climb, and eventually cascade. Mature stems commonly reach about 1–3 feet long, making the species especially well suited to hanging baskets. The small foliage forms a dense mat as stems branch and spread.

Mature plants may produce clusters of small, fragrant flowers. Botanical descriptions report yellow-green to cream-colored corollas with pale coronas and pink to red coloration near the flower center.

Pet Safety

This plant has not been tested for pet safety.

After Delivery

Allow your Hoya curtisii time to acclimate after shipping. Keep its light, temperature, and watering conditions stable during the first couple of weeks.

Do not repot a freshly shipped plant for at least two weeks after delivery. Repotting during the Blackwater Plants guarantee period voids live plant guarantee coverage.
