Maranta ‘Beauty Kim’ Variegated Prayer Plant

The Maranta ‘Beauty Kim’ is a variegated prayer plant with green foliage, chocolate-brown markings, and irregular splashes of cream to pale yellow variegation. The pattern varies from leaf to leaf, giving each plant a slightly different appearance.

Like other prayer plants, its leaves naturally change position throughout the day, often lifting upward in the evening. ‘Beauty Kim’ has a low-growing, outward-spreading habit that can become gently trailing as the plant matures. The original cultivar description identifies it as rounded, mounded, low-growing, and outwardly spreading to weeping. Google Patents

Care

Light: Provide medium to bright indirect light. Avoid strong direct sun, which can bleach or scorch the foliage. Brighter indirect light generally helps maintain strong variegation.

Water: Keep the potting mix lightly and evenly moist, but not saturated. Water when the surface begins to dry. Avoid repeatedly allowing the root ball to dry completely.

Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is preferred. Dry air can contribute to crispy leaf edges.

Soil: Use a loose, well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture while still allowing airflow around the roots.

Temperature: Warm indoor temperatures are best. Protect from cold drafts and prolonged temperatures below about 60°F.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted balanced houseplant fertilizer.

Growth & Habit

‘Beauty Kim’ stays relatively compact and develops a dense, low-growing habit before spreading outward. Mature stems may begin to trail over the edge of the pot, making it well suited for shelves, plant stands, and hanging planters. Google Patents
