Description

Common Name: Red Sister Ti Plant
Family: Asparagaceae
Plant Type: Tropical evergreen shrub (houseplant)

The Red Sister (Cordyline fruticosa 'Red Sister') is a stunning Ti plant with slender cane-like stems and flamboyant foliage. Emerging leaves are a vivid magenta-pink that darken to burgundy and deep green with age, creating a multi-tone effect. This upright evergreen forms a clumping rosette and can reach 3–6 feet indoors, making a striking statement plant for bright interiors.

The vibrant, sword-shaped leaves and tropical habit make the Red Sister a favorite for adding a splash of color and a touch of the tropics to homes and offices.

• Bright pink-to-burgundy foliage with green tones
• Upright cane or rosette growth habit
• Tropical evergreen; clumping form
• Adds a bold, colourful focal point
• Rarely flowers indoors (white to pale lavender blooms in mature plants)

### CARE GUIDE

**Light**
Provide bright, indirect light to filtered sun. Avoid harsh direct sun which can scorch the leaves. Red Sister tolerates light shade but foliage may lose vibrancy in low light.

**Water**
Keep the soil consistently moist from spring through fall; allow the top 1 inch of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in winter but do not let the plant dry out completely. Use room-temperature, non-fluoridated water to prevent brown tips.

**Humidity**
Prefers high humidity. Mist the leaves regularly or place the pot on a pebble tray with water. Great for kitchens or bathrooms. Dry air may cause brown leaf edges.

**Soil & Potting**
Use a rich, well-draining peat-based potting mix with perlite or coarse sand (pH 6–6.5). Ensure the container has drainage holes. Repot every 2–3 years as it grows.

**Fertilizer**
Feed with a balanced 20-20-20 liquid fertilizer at half strength every 2 weeks during spring and summer. Do not fertilize in winter.

**Temperature**
Thrives in warm temperatures between 65–85 °F. Protect from cold drafts and keep above 62 °F. Prefers consistently warm environments.

### GROWTH & SIZE

• Moderate growth rate
• Typically 3–6 ft tall indoors; can reach 9–15 ft outdoors in warm climates
• Leaves can grow up to 30 in long and 6 in wide
• Can be pruned to maintain size and shape; propagate from stem cuttings

### SAFETY NOTE

Contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic if ingested; keep away from pets and children. Wear gloves when pruning to avoid skin irritation.
